Day porter services

Day porter services, done right.

A busy building gets messy fast. Footprints in the lobby, a restroom out of paper towels, a full breakroom bin. Small things, but they shape how tenants and visitors see your property.

A Dominion day porter follows a set route through your building, handling those things before anyone complains: restroom checks and restocking, trash runs, entrance glass and elevators, spill response and common-area touch-ups.

You choose the hours and the areas; we staff it, supervise it and keep it consistent.

Step by step

How it works.

01

Walk the building

We follow the traffic with you: entrances, lobbies, restrooms, breakrooms.

02

Map the peaks

Morning arrivals, the lunch rush and late-afternoon traffic set the route.

03

Staff the route

A background-checked porter works the route on the hours you choose.

04

Tune it

We adjust timing and stops as your building’s pattern changes.

Choosing day porter hours.

Start with the hours your building is hardest on itself. In most offices that means arrivals from about 8 to 10 a.m., the lunch rush and the late-afternoon exit. A peak-hours porter covers those windows and skips the quiet stretches. Full-day coverage makes sense when the lobby never really empties, as in a downtown San Jose tower or a busy medical building.

Count the complaints, too. If tenants report empty dispensers by 11 a.m., you need more restroom passes, not more hours. If the lobby looks tired by 3 p.m., extend the shift into the afternoon. The walkthrough turns those patterns into a schedule you can read at a glance.

Where day porters earn their keep.

Day porters pay off fastest where people are always on show: multi-tenant towers, research offices and corporate headquarters. Visitors judge the lobby and the restroom before they ever reach a meeting room. A porter on the floor keeps both right between janitorial visits.

Pair the day shift with scheduled restroom rounds when restrooms are the main pressure point, or with trash and recycling runs when breakroom bins overflow by noon. Read how porters and janitorial split the work before you decide what the porter covers.

What does a day porter cost?

Day porter coverage is billed by the porter-hour, and most buildings across our service area land between $31 and $47 an hour on 2026 figures from published market data. Carson City and Reno routes sit below that band, with simple posts starting near $28. Mountain View and Peninsula campuses sit at the top, where multi-building routes with heavy lobby traffic reach $57.

The monthly number is hours times rate. Put one porter in a San Francisco office tower from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, with a half-hour break, and you buy 40 hours a week, or about 173 hours a month. At $42 that comes to roughly $7,280. Trim the post to a split shift that covers the 8 to 10 a.m. arrivals and the noon-to-2 lunch peak, and the hours, and the bill, drop by half.

Early starts and Saturday posts cost more than a mid-morning shift. The day porter pricing guide breaks the rates down city by city.

A few useful answers

Common questions.

What hours do day porters work?

Peak-hours posts cover morning arrivals through the lunch peak, and full-day posts run from open to close. The walkthrough sets your hours.

Can one porter cover a whole building?

Yes, for a mid-size building. In a tower or on a campus, the route splits between two or more porters.

Do porters handle spills and urgent issues?

Yes. Responding to spills and messes is a core part of the job.

What does a day porter's route look like?

A loop through restrooms, lobbies, elevators, breakrooms and entrances, repeated through the shift, with time set aside for spills and requests.

Can day porters help before a big meeting or tour?

Yes. Porters can give a lobby or conference floor extra attention ahead of visitors.

Will a day porter get in the way of tenants?

No. Porters work around people, pausing a task when a meeting lets out and coming back once the space clears.

Is a day porter worth it for a smaller building?

Yes, when traffic is heavy at a few predictable times. A peak-hours shift covers arrivals and lunch without staffing the quiet afternoon.
