Why day porters

Nightly cleaning isn’t enough for a busy building.

Your janitorial crew leaves the building spotless every night. By 10 a.m. the lobby has footprints, the restrooms need attention and the breakroom trash is full. Tenants and visitors notice.

Day porter services fix that. A Dominion porter works through your building on a set route: checking and restocking restrooms, emptying trash, wiping entrances and elevators, handling spills and keeping common areas presentable from open to close.

When the building empties, our night porters take over, resetting lobbies, entries and exteriors so the property opens fresh the next morning.

How it works

A porter plan
in three steps.

Getting porter coverage in place is fast and straightforward.

01

Walk the building

We walk the property with you and map the areas that need attention, and when.

02

Set the coverage

You get a clear porter plan: hours, routes and tasks matched to your traffic.

03

Start and adjust

We staff the plan, check in with you and tune the coverage as your building changes.

What a porter shift looks like, hour by hour.

A weekday route starts before tenants arrive. The porter walks the lobby, checks every ground-floor restroom and clears anything the night shift flagged. By 9 a.m. the entrance glass is wiped and the elevator cabs are done. Mid-morning goes to restroom rounds on the upper floors and a first sweep of breakroom bins.

Lunch is the hardest hour, so the route tightens: more restroom passes, a trash run as soon as cafés and breakrooms empty, spills handled in between. Afternoons cover the stops tenants see on the way out. At the end of the day the porter leaves notes for the night porter shift, which resets lobbies and exteriors after hours.

A few useful answers

Questions we hear a lot.

What does a day porter do?

Keeps the building presentable while it’s occupied: restroom checks and restocking, trash runs, lobby and entrance upkeep, spill response and common-area touch-ups.

How is porter different from janitorial?

Janitorial does the full clean of suites and offices after hours. Day porters keep shared spaces right while the building is busy, and night porters reset lobbies, entries and exteriors.

How many hours of coverage do we need?

Three to four peak hours is a sound start; after the walkthrough we recommend anything from a peak-hours post to full-day staffing.

Can you cover multiple buildings?

Yes. We set porter routes across campuses, business parks and portfolios.

How does porter coverage get started?

Request a plan or call us. We book a free walkthrough at the hours your building gets busy, then send a written porter plan. Coverage starts once you approve it.

What should we prepare before the porter walkthrough?

A floor list, your busiest hours, the spots tenants complain about and any areas with access rules, such as docks or amenity rooms. That gives the walkthrough a head start and sharpens the first draft of your porter plan.

Can porter coverage start small and grow?

Yes. You can begin with restroom rounds and trash runs at peak hours, then add lobby, exterior or garage coverage as needs grow.
